Bold Predictions for 2018: NFC Edition
It's here! Its finally here after months and months of waiting the NFL season kicks off tonight with the Falcons at the Eagles! It's every NFL fan's Christmas Eve! Our first real football game of the 2018-2019 NFL season. One of the things I strive for, when it comes to football and fantasy football, is perfection. That's not the case here. These are the hot takes, the risks, and the spot where I say what I want to say no matter how bold of a prediction it is.
Dallas Cowboys - Michael Gallup bursts onto the scene, quickly becoming Dak Prescotts favorite target, and leads all rookie WR in fantasy points. Look for Gallup to quickly surpass Allen Hurns as Daks new favorite toy. Gallup will tally 1,000+ yds and 10 TD.
New York Giants - Eli Manning has a season mirroring 2011, tallying nearly 5,000 yards and 30 TD. Look for Eli Manning to have a bounce back season. A healthy Odell Beckham Jr, Evan Engram, Sterling Sheppard, and Saquon Barkley help make Eli a top QB, and the best in the NFC East.
Philadelphia Eagles - The teams best RB at seasons' end will be Corey Clement. Look for Clement to have a breakout season, quickly becoming a 3-down back. Averaging 4.3 YPC last season, Clement looks to improve behind a mu-h improved O-Line. Clement also proved he can be a weapon in the passing game and will surpass Jay Ajayi atop the Eagles depth chart.
Washington Redskins - Adrian Peterson is back! He has a great year as the lead back in Washington, posting over 1,000 yds and 8 TD. AP looks to jump up the all-time leading rushers list, passing up names like Marshall Faulk, Jim Brown, Tony Dorsett, and Eric Dickerson. After the season he signs a 1-day contract with the Vikings and retires, a sure first ballot HOFer.
Chicago Bears - Jordan Howard is a top 5 fantasy RB at seasons end. Look for Howard to eat in Chicago. The addition of Khalil Mack will help the bears be able to run out the game with a much improved defense. Look for Howard to post 1,400 yds as well as 10 TD. Howard will also make an impact in the passing game, tallying 50 receptions.
Detroit Lions - Matthew Stafford leads the league in passing yards, going for over 5,000 yds for the second time in his career, and 35+ TD. Stafford is a finalist for the league MVP, beat out by a fellow NFCer to be named later. Bonus bold take: Kenny Golladay is the teams best fantasy WR, posting double digit TD's on the season.
Green Bay - Aaron Rodgers shiny new toy finishes as the TE1, beating out names like Gronk, Ertz, and Kelce. Jimmy Graham has the best season of his career. Graham looks to beat out his 2013 season where he posted 1,215 yds and 16 TD. Look for career highs in yards and TDs as he becomes Rodgers favorite target, and the best TE he has played with in Green Bay.
Minnesota Vikings - The Vikings have 2 WR who tally over 1,000 yards in Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen and fellow teammate Dalvin Cook posts over 1,200 rushing yards. The Vikings will be a top 3 offense and top 3 defense in the NFL, being upset again in the playoffs is another tragedy for Vikings fan worldwide, not making a Super Bowl since Super Bowl XI.
Atlanta Falcons - Tevin Coleman is the teams best fantasy RB. Coleman looks to make his impending free agency tour worthwhile, becoming the best RB on the Falcons. Coleman will have the best statistical year of his career, catching over 50 balls and rushing for over 700 yds. Coleman will top the contract McKinnon got in FA, joining a division rival in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Carolina Panthers - Christian McCaffrey posts over 1,600 total yards and leads the league in receptions by a running back. So long Greg Olsen. CMC becomes Cam Newton's security blanket catching over 90 balls and leads the team in rushing TD, even more than Cam himself. McCaffrey becomes the all-purpose threat he was at Stanford and Carolina has a top offense in the league.
New Orleans Saints - Alvin Kamara, not David Johnson, goes 1,000/1,000 and wins the NFL MVP. Kamara takes a stranglehold on the RB situation in New Orleans while Mark Ingram serves his 4-game suspension. Upon his return, Ingram strictly becomes a goal line back until losing that to Kamara as well. Ingram is traded mid season to an AFC contender *cough*Patriots*cough*
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Jameis Winston tallies over 4,000 yards and leads the league in YPG. Winston looks to bounce back after having to serve a 3-game suspension to start the season. He comes back on fire lighting up the Bears newly improved defense for 400 yds and 4 TD. Buccaneers capitalize on Winston’s success late in the season and finish 8-8 after starting the season 0-3.
Arizona Cardinals - Ricky Seals-Jones becomes a top 10 TE, mostly in fact to Sam Bradford playing 16 games in a season. Its no secret that Bradford loves his TE. Seals-Jones is the beneficiary of Bradford’s QB play and his the 3rd best receiving option on the team, behind Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson. A guy that had 25% of his catches last year go for TD has that high TD potential.
Los Angeles Rams - Jared Goff because the NFC West best fantasy QB, leading the league in TD passes. The addition of Brandin Cooks, as well as Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, and Todd Gurley make this one of the leagues most lethal offenses. Goff takes advantage of his opponents. Even with a tough SOS Goff will tally 40+ TD this season. Goff is in consideration for MVP, and cements himself as a top 10 fantasy QB next season.
San Francisco 49ers - Matt Breida takes his opportunity and makes a top 15 season by a RB in .5 or full PPR leagues. McKinnon went down with an injury, which elevated Breida's value immensely. Stepping into a lead role in a Kyle Shanahan-lead offense, Breida quickly becomes Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target. Breida becomes a first-time pro bowler and takes over the lead job in San Francisco next year.
Seattle Seahawks - Nick Vannett goes from fantasy irrelevance to double digit TDs. Vannett becomes Russell Wilson's go-to guy behind Doug Baldwin. Vannett, who went undrafted in most leagues will be a hot pickup after posting 4 TD in the first 2 games including a 3 TD performance against the Bears in week 2. The loss of Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson create a star in Vannett.
