Week 6 Waiver Wire Wonders

October 8, 2018

How are you feeling at this point in the season? Are your studs putting it together? Have your waiver wire pickups contributed?  Even if you're cruising right now, each week brings a new opportunity to find a hidden gem on the wire, so here are a few potential week 6 additions.

As always, I'm only looking at players with under 50% ownership in Yahoo and ESPN leagues. Hit me up on Twitter @MichaelSKlos if you have any waiver wire or fantasy football questions!

Quarterback

Jameis Winston, TB - Yahoo 18% owned, ESPN 13% owned

Jameis took over in the second half of a week 4 loss to the Bears when the Fitzmagic went up in smoke. The Bucs have already named Winston the starter and he's facing a shoddy Atlanta defense this week. I'd feel comfortable streaming him this week and possibly beyond.

C.J. Beathard, SF - Yahoo 4% owned, ESPN 3% owned

In the last two weeks, Beathard has been chucking the rock to the tune of 298 and 349 yards and 5 total TDs. He's also prone to turn the ball over, so forget about him if you're in a league where INTs are more costly. If you're in a pinch, Beathard could be a serviceable start on Monday night against Green Bay.

Baker Mayfield, CLE - Yahoo 37% owned, ESPN 38% owned

Last week, I listed Mayfield as a honorable mention and told you to grab him if he was available. He's still widely available and just passed for 342 and a score against a Baltimore. Look at his upcoming schedule: Chargers, Bucs, Steelers, Chiefs and Falcons on the docket. That's 5 straight weeks of poor defenses.

Running Backs

Mike Davis, SEA - Yahoo 19% owned, ESPN 15% owned

Davis is still a good pickup. In fact, his ownership only increased from 1% to 15% in the past week, but Davis keeps on getting opportunity. Carson is still the man to own, but Davis is making a case for himself.

Alfred Morris, SF - Yahoo 42% owned, ESPN 49% owned

Matt Breida is a little beat up, and an ankle injury to the second-year player gives Morris more rushing chances. If you take the plunge on Morris, make sure to keep an eye of Breida's status throughout the week. After seeing LeGarrette Blount attack the Green Bay goal line defense, I could see Morris doing the same if his offense puts him in the same position.

Ronald Jones, TB - Yahoo 25% owned, ESPN 18% owned

If you are hurting at RB, there's a good chance that Jones takes over the running duties for Tampa Bay in Week 6. As I said last week, I anticipate that Dirk Koetter and the coaching staff will look at the last two weeks of Peyton Barber's ineffectiveness and start looking for ways to get Jones involved.

Honorable Mention: I'm not sure about Lamar Miller's status long term, so grabbing Alfred Blue off a nice performance against Dallas could help. D'Onta Foreman could be returning off the PUP list soon, making this a crowded backfield (at least for a few weeks until the cream rises to the top).

Wide Receivers

Robby Anderson, NYJ - Yahoo 34% owned, ESPN 41% owned

How many players can say they got back on track against the Denver Broncos? Well...actually a lot of players these days. Robby Anderson exploded for 123 yards and TDs against Denver and continues to be a boom-or-bust play. I'm not in love with his volume but you can't deny his ability.

David Moore, SEA - Yahoo 0% owned, ESPN 0% owned

This is a deeper league move, but if Russell Wilson is going to continue to scramble and toss up a few prayers, you need to own the players on the receiving end of his shenanigans. I added David Moore in dynasty around Week 1 and I think this might be a move to help my depth this year and for the future.

Marquez Valdez-Scantling, GB - Yahoo 9% owned, ESPN 3% owned

If the Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison miss more time, then MVS can be rostered. The rookie drew Aaron Rodger's eyes 10 times and caught 7 balls for 68 yards and a score    (and had one TD called back). He might not be a superstar but he has some short-term value.

Christian Kirk, AZ - Yahoo 9% owned, ESPN 11% owned

I'm not in love with Kirk, but he's the wide receiver to own in Arizona. He scored his first career TD last week and could serve as a decent part of the offense going forward.

Honorable Mentions: I'd like to see more of Curtis Samuel, and I think Chester Rogers will continue getting targets, especially if TY Hilton continues to have hamstring issues. Mohamed Sanu is still only owned by a third of leagues (C'mon!), as is last week's waiver wire darling Keke Coutee.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper, ATL - Yahoo 57% owned, ESPN 49% owned

Hooper had 9 grabs for 77 yards against the Steelers, which was good for the 4th best TE score on the week. He was another play I recommended last week and he'll be another great play against Tampa this week.

Cameron Brate, TB - Yahoo 29% owned, ESPN 17% owned

If you don't have a top 5 TE, you need Cameron Brate. One of Jameis Winston's favorite targets, Brate has scored the last two weeks and OJ Howard is likely to miss another game or two. I think Brate is a low-end TE1 going forward and I love that value off the wire at this point in the season.
